Bronze and Blue Arrows Icon Delco Medicine Drop Off Box

Delaware County residents have 24/7 access to secure medication drop boxes to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs that can be lethal when they fall into the wrong hands.

Through the continuing efforts of Delaware County Council, the District Attorney and the Delaware County Heroin Task Force, "Delco Medicine Drop" boxes have been installed at many different locations throughout the county.

Medications in standard containers can be deposited in those containers. Loose medication can be put in plastic bags. Liquid medications should be enclosed in secure containers. Be sure to remove all personal information before disposal.

The medicine drop-off box in Haverford Township is located in the vestibule of the Police Department at 1010 Darby Road. Please use the entrance off of Maono Road to access the lower building parking lot.

Bronze and Blue Arrows Icon Sharps Drop Off Box

Haverford Township is pleased to announce the installation of a Sharps Collection point for used medical-purpose needles, epi-pens, and lancets. Responding to numerous community requests for a safe disposal option, the locked steel box has been placed in the vestibule at the main entrance of the Police Department, conveniently located next to the County Prescription Drug drop box.

Residents are encouraged to utilize this service while adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Container Requirements: All used needles must be placed in a sealed, sturdy plastic container (such as a thick plastic beverage bottle, laundry soap container, or an approved sharps container). If the container does not fit into the disposal hopper, please have the Police desk contact the program coordinator at extension 2222.
  • Medication Disposal: Please note that no medications should be disposed of in the Sharps Collection box—those should be placed in the prescription drug drop box located to the left.

This initiative is essential due to the increasing prevalence of home therapies that require self-administration of certain medications. The collection point not only provides a safe disposal method for residents but also protects public works staff from potential hazards associated with sharps during trash collection.

We hope that this new service will bring peace of mind to our community and encourage safe disposal practices.
