Haverford Township Launches Food Collection Drive to Support Residents Affected by SNAP Suspension and Funding Delays
• Official Press Release | Posted | 10/31/2025 •
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services recently announced that, beginning November 1, 2025, the state will temporarily stop distributing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to the federal government shutdown, which began on October 1. Recognizing the added pressure this is placing on local food pantries, many of which are already seeing an increase in families seeking help, Haverford Township will host a week-long food collection drive from Monday, November 3 through Friday, November 7, 2025.
Neighbors are encouraged to drop off items at either of the following locations during regular business hours:
- Haverford Township Administration Building – 1014 Darby Road, Havertown
- Haverford Community Recreation and Environmental Center (CREC) – 9000 Parkview Drive, Haverford
All donations will directly benefit local food pantries serving residents of Haverford Township. Common donations include:
- Canned soup
- Canned fruit
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fish
- Canned beans
- Pasta and sliced bread (preferably whole grain)
- Rice (preferably brown rice)
- Personal care items (toothpaste, diapers, etc.)
- Household items (paper products, detergent, etc.)
For more information about the food drive and the items being collected, please contact the Haverford Township Administration Office at (610) 446-1000.
